Amanda Hand
I am a native of Minneapolis, born at Abbott Northwestern (where my niece was also born and my grandmother died) and a graduate of South High. Though I now live on the North Shore of Lake Superior, I still take great pride in being from that beautiful and broken city.
The door to poetry was opened for me by my 4th and 5th grade teacher, Stuart, and it’s been a facet of my life ever since. It was a game changer, as they say.
A good deal of my writing in the last decade or so has been in the form of music though poetry and lyrics occupy somewhat different spaces in my brain. I’ve never met a poem that made a good song.
I am a public school teacher, a partner and a parent which has influenced not only my lens but also my reason for writing. These roles have given me a purpose to live into.
